I was referred to see Dr Tartter for followup after a gender-conforming mastectomy performed by a surgeon out of town (background: I'm a transgender man, and having to travel for this surgery is very common.)
Dr Tartter was incredibly rude and dismissive from the moment he walked in. He spoke almost entirely to the nurse instead of me, and his remarks were overtly contemptuous of my surgeon, her work, and the procedure itself. He removed my surgical drains rapidly and painfully, spending barely more than 5 minutes in the room. Not to mention that he used latex gloves, despite a well documented latex allergy, and then shrugged it off/winked at me (yes, winked) when this was brought to his attention.
As a trans person, my encounters with doctors have mostly been awful, and I have experienced far worse than this; I accept some degree of awfulness as a fact of life - but even by these standards, Dr Tartter stood out as one of the most transphobic and openly hostile doctors I've seen in years. This may be an anomalous experience. He may be a great oncology breast surgeon for cisgender (ie. not trans) people, but I would strongly warn any post-surgery trans people to steer clear of him unless they want to be hurt.
